Approved Continuing Education Providers and Courses

As outlined in Subsection 3408 of the Louisiana Real Estate Appraisers Law, during each two-year certification period and as a prerequisite for certification renewal, state licensed appraisers must complete 28 hours of continuing education course work in courses approved by the Louisiana Real Estate Appraisers Board as follows:

  • The mandatory seven-Hour National Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) Update Course.  (No Exceptions.)
  • 21 hours in real estate appraisal electives (The certified appraiser may complete these hours in appraisal subject(s) of his/her choice provided the Board approves the course(s).

2026 Mandatory Course Implementation

Beginning January 1, 2026, appraisers must successfully complete a course which meets the content requirements of the Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations Outline, every two years.

Important notes about the new requirement:

  • The requirement for appraisers to complete the Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course begins on January 1, 2026. No appraiser is required to complete it before this date.
  • Appraisers whose renewal period ends on 12/31/2025 do not need to take the course prior to renewing. The course must be completed during the 2026-27 license period for the next renewal cycle.
  • The first-time course must be 7 hours (plus an exam if completed as part of the qualifying education). Future cycles require at least 4 hours every two years.

Additional Continuing Education Info

Credit toward the continuing education requirement for appraiser trainees, licensed residential appraisers, certified residential appraisers, and certified general appraisers  will not be granted for courses that are less than two instructional hours. A final examination is not required on courses administered for the purpose of continuing education.

As of January 1, 2005, all continuing education hours submitted for credit must be in appraiser topics. This includes any course completed through REALTOR® boards and/or proprietary schools. This is in accordance with a mandate from the Federal Appraisal Subcommittee in Washington, D.C.

Course completed through institutions or providers not included herein may be considered for continuing education approval on an individual basis; however, such course work must be submitted to the Board for a determination prior to submission of the applicant's certification renewal application.
